Towards a World Investment Tribunal: New Era in Investor – State Dispute Settlement

1.      Introduction

In pre-WWIIera, the national economic protectionist policies, beside other reasons, laidin a severe global economic crisis which has continued until end of WWII(Ambrosius & Hubbard, 1986: 139-40). This experience triggered the debateson the establishment of a new regulated global economic system which would bekept under strict control, which originated the United Nations Monetary andFinancial Conference, commonly known as the Bretton Woods Conference, in NewHampshire between 1- 22 July 1944 with the attendance of 730 delegates from 44countries.
